Our course is designed to fit the specific needs of each one of our Veterans. For those who are able, we teach the 4-day PADI Open Water dive course. We also have the option to certify divers with the Handicapped Scuba Association. This allows us to modify the necessary skills needed for certification, and with the proper team to support the diver, we have the ability to get each and every one of our Vets diving!
The first two days we spend in the pool at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto (thanks Alisa!), where we discuss dive theory, familiarize students with the equipment, and practice the necessary skills needed to become a real deal scuba diver. Then we hop on a plane and find some warm water! Day 3 we head out into the ocean for Open Water dives 1 & 2. We review skills we had gone over in the pool, add a few new ones, and start getting used to the ocean environment. The next morning we have Open Water dives 3 & 4, where we continue to hone our skills and make sure all of our divers are confident in their abilities and able to complete their dives safely. By lunchtime we have certified divers!
Our first trip to Hawaii was a huge success, and with your help we will be back in the water soon!
